Photojojo is a small company based in San Francisco created by Amit Gupta after discovering with a friend that there is a person who has many ideas in taking a photo and making projects connected to photography that others may not know, and vice versa. He founded Photojojo to have an avenue in exchanging these ideas - ideas which can turn ordinary picture-takers into creative photographers even if they are only using their camera phones or point-and-shoot cameras. Their website issues a free photography newsletter that gives fun, easy and creative news and ventures about photography. Most of the time they share DIY projects like how to turn ones room into a camera obscura or how to make stained glass window out of instagrams.

Traveling opens your eyes to world situations and also allows you to come up with ways on how to solve them. When Blake Mycoskie travelled to Argentina in 2006, he saw people living in deprived conditions including kids going about without shoes. Also in Argentina, he came to learn about alpargata, the traditional Argentine shoes. After the trip, he started the shoe company called TOMS which gave the design of alpargata a makeover with the goal to use his company to help the children he saw in Argentina and other disadvantaged children in other countries. He came up with the One for One Program where every purchase of one pair of TOMS shoes, a pair of shoes is pledged to be given to a child. The idea came when he was in South Africa where he witnessed the immense generosity of people with little or no money at all.
Today, TOMS has expanded its shoe products from alpargata-inspired design to ones that could be worn with or without laces called Cordones as well as those with materials that have no animal byproducts. There are also ladies shoes called the Wedge and the Wrap Boot for women. Youth and kids line are also available. Aside from shoes, TOMS.com also sells t-shirts, hats and accessories which also match one pair of shoes for every purchase. And as TOMS line grows, their reach also widens with over 50 countries. In September 2010 they gave their one millionth pair of new shoes to a child. TOMS follow the principle of responsible and sustainable giving making sure that the same children are given new pair when they need one and that giving shoes does not create social and/or economic effects in the area. In 2011, Blake published a book called Start Something that Matters, which chronicles the story of TOMS and the lessons learned from their partner charities and other people who are able to help TOMS Movement be a source of hope to the people they help and inspiration to the ones who would like to start a movement like theirs. Christy Turlington, or Christy Turlington Burns, is an American model. She is best known for her work with Calvin Klein (having represented the brand for 20 years), but she is also recognized as the face of Versace and Maybelline Cosmetics at some point in time. While now away from the modeling arena, the 44-year-old is still as stunning as ever. However, her accomplishments are more than just stem from her good looks, venturing into business and fighting for a cause that is close to her heart.
Turlington started testing her entrepreneurial skills with the release of an ayurvedic skincare line called Sundari and two clothing lines geared towards women both produced with the help of Puma. A mother herself, she also founded Every Mother Counts, a project aimed at increasing awareness about maternal health to prevent deaths due to pregnancy and childbirth, and directed a documentary in 2010 called No Woman, No Cry. Like Every Mother Counts, No Woman, No Cry focuses on the importance of maternal health, using the US, Guatemala, Bangladesh, and Tanzania to drive her point home. Fashion retail is a dog-eat-dog world where only the strongest survive and attain success. There may be thousands of start-up businesses in fashion, but only a handful are really able to make it up the ladder enough to be recognized nationally, and hopefully later on, globally as well. It takes guts, a lot of determination and perseverance, business savvy, ambition, skill, creativity, ingenuity and a highly unique selling point to be able to make it in fashion.
Fortunately for Thomas Paul, owner and director of the up-and-coming brand thomaspaul, he had all of these qualities in abundance. A native New Yorker, Thomas Paul began his career as an intern at fashion label DKNY. A graduate of the New York Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in Textile Design, Thomas Paul worked as a specialist for a silk mill that dealt in neckwear and scarves, and crafted neckwear collections for popular designers. Paul's skill led to the launch of his own neckwear line in the nineties named digities. This then led to the idea of a home accessory collection using the silk mills Paul was working with. The thomaspaul brand's first products were pillows, introduced in 2001. Thomas Paul has since expanded thomaspaul to include other items for the home such as bath, bedding, tabletop, tea towels, baby, antique toys, holiday/gift products, as well as personal accessories like scarves, sunglass cases, brooches and camera cases. Thomas Paul products are proudly handmade in India, using natural textiles and dyes. Workers use hand-mixed inks and custom-made screen to painstakingly print the designs, after which each item is steamed, dried and cleaned, ready for packing and shipping. The brand is notable for its use of fun, vintage-inspired prints and animal and naval-themed graphics in neutral and earth tones. Definitely one-of-a-kind, thomaspaul products are guaranteed conversation-starters and make for lovely decorative as well as functional home items.
