Elmore thought that if he had trouble finding glasses that fit him, other people might be experiencing the same problem. As a solution, the big-headed guy got a big idea for sunglasses. He came up with Fatheadz, a line of sunglasses and prescription eyewear for customers with larger-than-usual heads.
For someone who didn’t finish college, Elmore did well. He is one of the few entrepreneurs able to make a good idea of work and sell to the masses. After his honeymoon, Elmore created a basic design of his concept. He hired a product-engineering company to make the prototype and assembled the pieces at home. To sell his designs, Elmore created a website, where initial customers saw his amazing product. Fatheadz grew in popularity thanks to customer word-of-mouth and now dominates the the plus-size eyewear market.
Elmore’s success is largely due to his quick identification of the needs of a literally growing American market. Fact is, the country’s growing waistline has created more business opportunities for entrepreneurs who can provide solutions to their needs.
Under Elmore’s direction, the company grew to become a million-dollar business you've never heard of. As proof of his success, Fatheadz recently struck a deal with WalMart and hit two million dollars in sales in 2010, a whopping 185% increase from 2009 sales.
With all his successes, Elmore remains optimistic about his business and plans to take it to the next level.
