PLX Technology, Inc. is best known for being the leading supplier of I/O (input and output) interconnect silicon. Its products are mostly components for interconnecting computer system parts. These offerings are used in communications, storage, server and embedded-control and consumer markets. PLX is best known for PCI Express (PCIe®), USB and other standard I/O devices. Their PCIe switches have a reputation for being low power, low latency, multi-purpose, highly configurable and for being highly flexible. The USB offered by PLX have also passed stringent industry standards compliance. These products offer superior performance and power saving solutions.
The products offered by PLX Technology serve four major markets, namely Enterprise Storage, Express Apps, Cloud Computing and ExpressFabric. The offerings of the company are intended to create a seamless and a more rapid flow of data in embedded systems that are mainly used to process, store and transmit information. These products are used in industrial equipment, imaging products, storage items and in networking telecommunications.
Prior to being acquired by Avago Technologies, PLX purchased Oxford Semiconductors in 2009. With this acquisition, the company was able to enter the market of creating hardware and firmware (both network-attached storage and direct attached storage) that are used in consumer storage products. This venture didn’t last as the management of the company decided to divest the research and development team to OCZ Technology Group in 2011.
As the company has taken its place as a subsidiary of Avago Technology, it continues to enhance its innovation to further support the storage, telecommunications and data networking markets.
