The business, also known as Take-Two or Take2, is an American multinational publisher, developer and distributor of video games and peripherals. Headquartered in New York City, the company generates more than $2,351 million in annualized revenue. They have four development studios, all located in California and an international corporate office in Windsor, United Kingdom. They are the owner of 2K Games and Rockstar Games and is the proprietary owner of 2K Sports. In 2006, the company also served as the publisher of Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Take2 was formed in 1993 by Ryan Brant. The foundation of the business was strengthened when the company acquired BMG Interactive in March 1998. The latter soon got reformed and was rebranded as Rockstar Games later that year. One of the milestones of the business is their entry to the market, the Hidden & Dangerous, which was released in 1999. This game was one of the first pioneering video arcades in the category of tactical first/third person shooters. This was followed by its sequel, Hidden & Dangerous 2, which was released four years after. 2005 was the year that the company has been aggressive in their approach to acquisitions. They spent more than $80 million in acquiring game developers. Some of the businesses they acquired that year include, Visual Concepts, Kush Games, and Irrational Games.
The two main subsidiaries of the company are 2K Games (Novato, California) and Rockstar Games (New York City). These two subsidiaries have several sub-companies that are operating in other countries and in different states within US. As they streamlined their operations, they also closed some of its businesses. As of, there are currently 14 defunct subsidiaries of Take2.
