A true innovation in the automotive market, the Leaf can travel up to seventy-three miles on a single charge. Uniquely, it has no gasoline engine, and has a fuel efficiency equivalent of ninety-nine miles per gallon. And although there have been a small number of issues with the system software -- brakes staying on after an emergency braking situation, air conditioning units causing a high voltage alert -- they have since been addressed, and Ghosn deems the Leaf a success.
As technology progresses and higher-capacity batteries are developed, the Nissan Leaf will likely become a viable option for drivers of all types, not only those with a sub-hundred mile driving range. In any case, it is truly an innovative product; and with ten-year estimates of two billion cars on the road in ten years, the Leaf is also a tremendously important product.
