The operations of the company involve the acquisition, ownership, operation and chartering of FSRUs (Floating Regasification Units) and LNG carriers. Golar LNG also takes part in development of projects related to LNG. There are three reporting segments within the company, namely LNG trading, vessel operations and floating liquefaction natural gas (FLNG). The vessels owned by the company are leased under time charters to outside customers, trading and arbitrage service. Currently, there are 25 vessels that are owned and operated by Golar LNG Limited. 19 of these vessels are LNG carriers and the rest are FSRUs.
The LNG trading segment of the company continues to engage in providing physical and financial risk management services to both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and gas markets. Golar is best known for leading the industry in FSRU projects. As of 2014, they have 4 operational projects that are intended to offer long term floating storage and regasification services. These projects are located in Brazil, Dubai and in Indonesia. To further bolster its leadership in the industry it serves, Golar LNG continues to expand its fleet. They have several vessels that are currently being completed by some of the largest producers of energy vessels in the world. Two of their largest providers are Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries.
