As the CEO of Continental Resources, his net worth is valued to be around $12.4 billion. Thanks to the increase in the productivity of his oil company, his fortune for 2012 alone increased by $2.7 billion. Quoted by Forbes, his business is set to still yield a total of 24 billion barrels in the years to come. He is confident that his company will still be capable of doubling the production of oil in the next five years.
Hamm was born in Lexington, Oklahoma on December 11, 1945. Youngest of the 13 siblings, he put up his business through his own efforts. He built his fortune from his first job as a gas station attendant.
After owning a Bobtail Ford truck, he used this sole asset to service oil wells and then later on created his own company, the Harold Hamm Tank Truck Service in 1966. His entrepreneurial skills led him to the creation of his billion dollar company, the Continental Resources. When the company was still called Shelly Dean Oil Company, Hamm already sat in the business as the CEO.
Because of his philanthropic works and his donation of $10 million through his Hamm Foundation, the Diabetes Center at the University of Oklahoma was named after him. He married Sue Ann in 1988 and just last year, she filed for a divorce. With the absence of a pre-nup, Hamm is looking at the possibility of a huge loss of his wealth. Sue Ann is a lawyer and an economist by profession.
