Today Whitney has her own analysis firm, Meredith Whitney Advisory Group LLC, and continues to make dire proclamations. Some critics, and objects of her reports, like Citigroup, decry her as little more than a producer of media hype. And while Whitney’s profile has grown from a little-known adviser at a little-known firm to one of Wall Street’s most recognizable figures, she has been proven right too many times to be skating by on luck. Perhaps Meredith Whitney has something that traditional market analysts lack: an understanding of how the relationship between firms and investors has changed in light of the recession.
