With albums like Music from Tea Lands and Blues Around the World, listeners are guaranteed not just of good music but also an education about the music and culture of the artists featured in the album. They carry diverse artists from Africa with the likes of blues legend Hugh Masekela to French legend Serge Gainsbourg. They have also featured contemporary artists like Israeli Idan Raichel and French chanteuse Carla Bruni. Their Putumayo Kids labels are also a success with the launching of the World Playground album in 1999. The label has received numerous acclaims. Then they also ventured to a syndicated radio show called, Putumayo World Music Hour featuring the artists and songs from the CDs they released.
Aside from introducing artists who are otherwise only known to their countries, Putumayo World Music organized international tours starting with the launch of the album Acoustic Africa. The music label also supports charitable institutions in the countries where these artists come from.
