You must be doing something right when your company keeps being on the list of Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” in the United States for 15 consecutive years. The Recreational Equipment Inc, better known as REI, has not left the list because they look after their employees from no-personal-contribution retirement plans to proper work-life balance. The patrons of this chain store are taken cared of as happy employees always make sure their customers are happy too. REI started as an outdoor gear co-op in 1938 by 22 climbers from Seattle. To this day, REI is still a consumer co-op with regular refunds based on their members’ annual shopping at the store. The company’s compassion also reaches the environment through REI Community Grants by supporting promotion of outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship in the United States. Employees themselves lend a hand in these advocacies by volunteering in different outdoor and environmental programs. The company is one of the pioneers of The Conservation Alliance.
