Fortunately for Thomas Paul, owner and director of the up-and-coming brand thomaspaul, he had all of these qualities in abundance. A native New Yorker, Thomas Paul began his career as an intern at fashion label DKNY. A graduate of the New York Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in Textile Design, Thomas Paul worked as a specialist for a silk mill that dealt in neckwear and scarves, and crafted neckwear collections for popular designers. Paul's skill led to the launch of his own neckwear line in the nineties named digities. This then led to the idea of a home accessory collection using the silk mills Paul was working with. The thomaspaul brand's first products were pillows, introduced in 2001.
Thomas Paul has since expanded thomaspaul to include other items for the home such as bath, bedding, tabletop, tea towels, baby, antique toys, holiday/gift products, as well as personal accessories like scarves, sunglass cases, brooches and camera cases. Thomas Paul products are proudly handmade in India, using natural textiles and dyes. Workers use hand-mixed inks and custom-made screen to painstakingly print the designs, after which each item is steamed, dried and cleaned, ready for packing and shipping. The brand is notable for its use of fun, vintage-inspired prints and animal and naval-themed graphics in neutral and earth tones. Definitely one-of-a-kind, thomaspaul products are guaranteed conversation-starters and make for lovely decorative as well as functional home items.
