Wong Fu Productions began with a camcorder and film projects for school. Initiated by Philip Wang, the trio started out by shooting small-scale but high-quality videos, and quickly gained popularity on the video sharing site. Their work, which revolves around a variety of themes such as romance, humor and day-to-day life, and centers mainly on the Asian-American experience and diaspora, first earned recognition when Wong Fu Productions released their first short film, “Yellow Fever.” This short film received positive reviews in universities. It was followed by a full-length feature film, “A Moment With You”, which was screened at the University of California, San Diego and the San Diego Asian Film Festival.
The company has branched out from making videos to producing concerts across the United States mostly featuring popular Asian-American artists, and has recently completed a Southeast Asia-Australian Tour, during which they did radio guestings, live speaking engagements, meet and greet events with their fans. Wang, Chan and Fu continue to make shorts and video clips for Wong Fu, but have also a number of projects shot individually. Aside from these, their business has branched out to include a clothing line for men and women named, “Just A Nice Guy”, and a series of plush toy animals called “Awkward Animals”, all available on their website. As far as Wong Fu Productions is concerned, they have proven that modern-day technology has truly opened previously unheard-of opportunities for those who are not afraid to take them.
